Summary of achievements since start of project

PPR Foundation collects plastic from urban waste and does separate the plastic by species (LDPE, HDPE, PP, PET, PC etc). The plastic is cleaned, shredded, heated and made into pellets to be used by its clients as the source of new packing materials. PPR employs 16 in the recycling plant and as collection supervisor and has 250 contracted labourers to collect plastic waste and select plastic from city waste in a variety of Aceh urban centres. Generally these people do live in substandard houses near to their place of work (waste collection points).

It is the objective of PPR Foundation not only to generate an income for its employees and contracted labourers, but in addition to help them improve over all living conditions. To this end the present project was started. In a first phase the 16 employees and 9 collectors have been selected for the housing scheme. PPR will build the houses. To pay for their new homes, 25 to 50% of the income will be deducted at the source during a 10 year period. After this period the homes will be the property of the employees.
